StanfordNext Timeline

StanfordNext is proceeding through an initial multi-phase process, beginning with listening and community input and moving toward the submission of a formal application to Santa Clara County. As the plan is developed, we intend to keep stakeholders informed by sharing details as they become available, explaining how feedback is shaping the proposal, and providing continued opportunities for engagement along the way. We look forward to continuing to engage with the community after the application is submitted and throughout the County’s public review and approval process.

Aug. 2026 – Future | Submission & Beyond

When the application is submitted to Santa Clara County staff later this summer, we'll share the remaining details of the proposal on this website and on the StanfordNext newsletter. We expect the County’s review process to then continue through 2028, with a vote by the Board of Supervisors anticipated sometime that year. As the application moves through public review we plan to host additional community events and provide updates as new information becomes available.

Jul. – Aug. 2026 | Refinement & Finalization

This summer, we'll continue to refine the StanfordNext application based on the university's needs and priorities and the feedback received from the community.

May. – Jun. 2026 | Defining & Shaping the Plan

We're now using what we heard during community outreach and engagement, along with the university’s priorities and long-term planning needs, to shape a proposal that responsibly adds new academic facilities, housing, transportation, sustainability, and supporting infrastructure within the existing academic campus boundaries. The latest StanfordNext updates can be found on this website, and were also presented at our most recent open house:

Oct. 2025 – Apr. 2026 | Listening & Learning

The first phase of our effort was devoted to listening to community members, campus constituencies, advisory group members, local leaders, and other stakeholders to understand their priorities, questions, and concerns. Some of the public engagement opportunities hosted for StanfordNext included:

    • Palo Alto Open House — Wednesday, December 10, 2025 (6:00–8:00 p.m.)
    • Palo Alto Open House — Saturday, December 13, 2025 (1:00–4:00 p.m.)

    • On-Campus Open House — Thursday, January 22, 2026 (11:30am–1:30 p.m.)
    • Mountain View Open House — Saturday, March 28, 2026 (12:00–2:30 p.m.)
  • StanfordNext Advisory Council Meetings
    • The StanfordNext Advisory Council (SNAC) is a multi-disciplinary group of community members from across the region — representing housing, business, environment, labor, transportation, K–12 education, and more — that will help advise on the StanfordNext plan. The group’s members have been selected by StanfordNext leadership as well as supervisors from both Santa Clara and San Mateo counties to ensure that StanfordNext reflects a broad spectrum of local perspectives and expertise.
