The planning process for StanfordNext will shape a new General Use Permit (GUP) that is designed to align with state, county, and local priorities while ensuring that Stanford remains a global leader in research, education, and innovation. After withdrawing our previous GUP application in 2019, we committed to ensuring that the university’s vision is better aligned with the priorities of our community, our county, and our neighbors.

StanfordNext’s forthcoming GUP application will differ from the previous application, with:

  • a more defined vision and scope
  • clearer priorities in addressing housing, transportation, and academic needs
  • strong alignment with county and state goals and priorities
  • early and consistent stakeholder engagement with a commitment to transparency and communication
